The first stop in Fort Lauderdale could not have been better. With a count of over one hundred teams competing for money, prizes, and bragging rights there was never a dull moment.

The competition was high with 28 Men’s Open Teams. The victors of the season opener were Steve Grotowski and Mike DiPierro. The match was a thrilling one with long rallies, sandy saves, big hits, and powerful serves. Second place went to Adrian Carambula and Matt Heath.

For the women Capri Hilgendorf and Olaya Pazo Perez took the title of Women’s Open. The duo swept the event undefeated the entire day. Kendra VanZwieten and Marcella Gammara finished the day in second place.

The coed division on Sunday exceeded expectations with a large turnout and sunny skies. Kelsey Fautsch and Andrew Mallin took gold in Open. Also, high applause to Daren Dvorak / Defrates Westly for Men’s AAA and Tammy Campball / Christine Cunningham Women’s AAA. For Men’s AA Matt Whelan / Clint Whelan and Women’s AA Lucy Perez / Teresa Perez. The champions of Men’s A are Kevin Boehmer / Ben Parker and Women’s A Alisha Hoffman / Kalee Schlaebach. Men’s BB Alex Fischer / Giovannni Rodriguez and Women’s BB Kasey Keane / Ricki Albritton. For Men’s B Richard YeeQuee / Alex Quinoa and Women’s B Alana Nielander / Ashley Dills. The winners of Coed A are Scott Witkowski / Zack Zarranz. Great job to everyone who participated!

We were able to raise $1,000 for HAITI with the raffle alone!!! Thank you to all those who donated money. Congratulations to the winners of all the wonderful prizes Dig The Beach had to offer. A special word goes out to Capri Hilgendorf and Steve Grotowski for not only BOTH winning the tournament, but also becoming engaged on Saturday. Needless to say it was an exciting weekend, and a memorable players party at America’s Backyard.
